The Theater Collective

Donation protected
The Theater Collective is a cooperative artistic project that produces theatrical works by and about underrepresented and misrepresented people in society. We understand the necessity of commercializing such works in order to break barriers outside of our cultural echo chambers. We bring not a new definition to inclusion, but the true definition - including all and creating a dialogue in which we can grow and better understand each other; this first and foremost involves uplifting the voices and stories of women, people of color, individuals with physical disabilities, LGBTQ+, immigrants, and more. The Theater Collective is dedicated to providing theatre that explores sexuality, gender, race, religion, politics, and all things that formulate culture in an accurate and progressive way.

Unfortunately, we can't promote this on a big enough level without some funding! This is where you come in. Any amount helps and will all go directly into our process.

UPDATE (8/7/18):

It's been a while but TTC is still moving forward! Over the past few months we've successfully put on all three of our readings, we hosted a short play festival at the end of June wherein we were able to feature 10 short plays over three days, and we host a monthly cold-read/writer's workshop every third Monday of the month. We're really happy with the art that we've been lucky enough to feature and the stories we've told.

BUT WE'RE NOT STOPPING THERE!!

If you remember, our idea was to choose one of the 3 plays that we had readings for to go into full production. Though our time line shifted a bit we are still following through with that promise.

TTC is currently, and very proudly, working to produce BACKYARD/DESERT by Nancy Irene Kelly! Backyard/Desert was our first reading ever and it especially stuck with us and our audience members for these past months so we thought it was the best choice to make. This play focuses on some extremely topical things that are going to hit home with a lot of people and we think it is absolutely imperative for as many people to see it as possible.

Here's some info for the show:

Synopsis:
A female border patrol agent finds a young migrant lost in the Arizona desert. The wrenching encounter slowly erodes the foundation upon which she's built her life, leading her to question her choices and relationships. Torn between the comfort of her unexamined values and a budding awareness of the human ties that transcend all borders, she must make a wrenching decision in order to follow her truth.

All that said: we still need money! Please consider donating so we can bring this production to life in the way it deserves!

THANK YOU ALL FOR FOLLOWING TTC'S JOURNEY! Stay tuned ;)

*Special thank you to Artichoke Basille's Pizza, The Drama League, Marymount Manhattan College and all of our lovely donors!*

-------------------------------------------------------------
Our layout for the season is this:
December 1, 2017: official launch date and begin seeking new play submissions!
January 10, 2018: choose 3 plays from those submissions to be read throughout the Spring
February 15, 2018: Reading 1
March 15, 2018: Reading 2
April 19, 2018: Reading 3
May 1, 2018: of those 3 plays choose 1 that will go into full production
Mid/Late August: the production!

Now of course most of the money needed will go into spaces. Thankfully, being based in NYC there are so many options for spaces. We're not looking to go to anything high end but even the cheaper spaces cost some money. And if we're going to showcase these wonderful new talents then we should do it right! Then of course there are all of the added costs that go into making a show (ie rehearsals, tech, equipment, etc).

We know that a new theatre company is a hard sell. But we don't need all the money we're looking for right away. So if you're able, you can start off the donations right away and help us get a solid foundation OR you can come check us out at one of our readings and see what we're really about and then continue to help us on this journey. (You can even do both!)

Any amount of money would be so grately appreciated. And even if you can't donate right now then share this page and tell your friends!

THANK YOU!!
