Trigger Warning: Anti-Transgender Violence
On April 23rd, 2024, Andrea Dos Passos life was tragically cut short as she slept outside the Miami City Ballet. Surveillance footage captured the horrifying moment when Gregory Fitzgerald Gibert approached Andrea and violently beat and tortured her with a metal pipe. She was found the following morning bloodied and beaten, with two wooden sticks lodged in her nostrils.
It is with heavy hearts that we mourn the loss of Andrea, who was a confident and vibrant member of our community, known for her resilience and spirit. Like far too many transgender people, Andrea faced many challenges including housing instability, which ultimately led to her death. Andrea's passing sheds light on the systemic failures and injustices faced by trans people on a daily basis. The lack of adequate resources and support systems leave vulnerable individuals like Andrea exposed.
Andrea's family now has the daunting task of arranging her funeral, while grappling with the immense pain of her loss. The funds raised through this campaign will go towards funeral costs and providing financial support for her family during this time.
Additionally, proceeds will be used to fund resources that address the root causes of this violence, specifically housing insecurity and advocacy efforts.
As an organization dedicated to supporting and advocating for LGBTQ+ rights, Pridelines stands in solidarity with Andrea's family and the broader trans community. Please join us in honoring Andrea's memory and demanding justice for her. We vow to work towards creating safer spaces where everyone, regardless of their gender identity, can live authentically and without fear of violence or discrimination.
Thank you for your support and generosity.
