Tran Horne Take-Over Legal Fund Initiative
**We acknowledge that our event in Tiohtià:ke/ Montréal takes place on the unceded Indigenous lands of the Kanien’kehá:ka/ Mohawk Nation. We are in the process of speaking to other skateboarding initiatives that centre Black and Indigenous people. Financial support will be given to them.**
Tran Horne Take-Over is an initiative of empowerment, of sport and to assert our freedoms, rights and styles as trans and queer people. We are here to skate, flirt and make friends. We are not here to share, we are taking over the night in a predominantly heteronormative environment. Tran Horne Take-Over offers our force of presence through power in numbers, our responsibility to uphold and advance the labour of trans and queer communities before us and, most of all, to have fun. It’s a gathering of beautiful and diverse sk8rs, friends and lovers which is rooted in unapologetic queer community and radical neighbourhood euphoria. Queer nightlife is Queer survival!
We are looking to raise funds to cover the recent fines from the SPVM, the latest of which is a noise disturbance infraction (R.R.V.M. c. B-3) totalling 450$. In addition, we are dedicated to establishing an enduring fund to combat future legal fees. We believe in vibrant nighttime community spaces for advancing queer solidarity, especially for BIPOC and trans darlings.
In the spirit of subverting normative skateboard culture and in making it more accessible and inclusive to our community, we are also raising money to purchase new skateboards for those that love to skate, those that want to learn, and those that have lost/ had stolen their boards. These will cost 100-200$ each.
Any other funds raised will be used to give back to trans/queer angels in need and to glorify Tran Horne Take-Over. We hope that you’ll support us if you believe that true safety comes from community and relationships, not fines or cops.
Those making donations of 40$ and over will receive a pair of shoes from VANS.
With Love,
The Tran Horne Take-Over Family
