Sometimes we hear a call and know it's ours to answer. This is one of those times for me. I hope you will help me answer that call!
I'm preparing to bring my special degree in Hospice and Grief Counseling, decades of experience in Compassionate (non-medical) End of Life Care and 8 yrs. experience training Hospice volunteers to Ganga Prem Hospice in Northern India.
I'll be offering extensive experiential training to the volunteers and assisting in setting up the volunteer management system, support groups and bereavement program.
Ganga Prem has been supplying free medical care to people from the Indian cities of Hardiwar, Rishikesh, Deradhun and beyond, using volunteer doctors, nurses and community members to staff their monthly clinics. These might be the only medical services for these people, who include many untreated cancer patients. During each clinic, medical professionals, including an Ayurvedacharya , consult with 50 to 92 patients who've come for exams, diagnosis, medicine and care, despite long travels, wind, rain, cold or heat. The number of patients continues to grow.
The completed East Wing of the inpatient facility is about to open and will serve 17 terminally ill inpatients.
The Ganga Prem staff are skilled people - So its my intention to watch and listen as I offer my skills, materials and experience in ways so I can serve them, ...keeping in mind their expertise, insight, devotion and cultural styles of relationships.
My current hospice employer has agreed to give me 6 weeks leave to do this work.! for which i am grateful.
But I need your help!
I don't receive vacation or other benefits, so your donation will be used towards airfare, my health insurance, and a room for the time I'm working there.
Perhaps someone YOU care about had 1st hand experience with Hospice and so you know what that care can mean. ..
Or maybe you work as a Hospice Volunteer in the U.S. or elsewhere and know the depth of that role.
Your support is deeply appreciated. This isn't a vacation or a shopping trip, so you won't receive gifts.
