Madge is our gentle and loving four month old Labrador puppy who I would like to train to be a therapy dog for children at Great Denham Primary School. Madge was bought by our family at a time when we were struggling significantly with grief following the loss of my best friend at only 48 years old. The comfort she has bought to our family has inspired me to want to get her trained so she can support others.
Having a therapy dog for our children will bring not only joy to the children but also she will be able to support children with their social , emotional and mental health as well as children who may be worried or anxious. Therapy dogs are proven to help raise self esteem and boost confidence as well as improve mood and improve social skills.
Madge has already passed her temperament assessment for becoming a therapy dog with a national organisation called PAWS - therapy dogs and now needs to begin her full training. This company provides all the training as well as support with risk assessments and everything needed to make sure Madge would be introduced to children in the right and safe way. Madge has the support of GDPS governing body and is looking forward to hopefully becoming part of our GD family!
