It has now been two weeks since SPB's trailer and traveling dance floor were stolen and now we need to look forward towards replacing what was lost. Insurance will not cover all that we lost. Your donation towards a new trailer and traveling dance floor will help St. Paul Ballet continue to bring ballet to the community for years to come.

The Story:
The weekend of June 24, 2017 the trailer containing St. Paul Ballet’s traveling dance floor was stolen outside its studios. This trailer and floor is used for more than 25 free outreach performances a year by the Company and School of St. Paul Ballet. The trailer and materials were valued at nearly $11,000 not including thousands of dollars of skilled labor donated to the construction. The trailer hitch had been locked and the trailer chained to a post outside of the building, both of which were cut when staff discovered the trailer missing on Sunday morning.
The trailer was customized to carry carts of modular sprung floor and dance vinyl to protect the health and safety of the dancers by providing a resilient sprung dance surface over concrete and tile. This allowed free outreach performances at Landmark Center, the Mall of America, Como Dockside Pavilion, Barnes & Noble and more.
St. Paul Ballet was able to purchase the trailer and traveling dance floor thanks to a matching grant through the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council.
In the three years that St. Paul Ballet has called Hamline-Midway its home, the organization has never experienced any theft or vandalism. “This building and community have been very safe,” said Gleason, Executive Director. “What is sad is that we utilize the trailer and equipment to reach thousands of small children at our free Ballet Tuesdays at Landmark Center and Mall of America.”
There is discussion about adding external cameras to the building. In addition, St. Paul Ballet is researching more extensive locking methods for the trailer to ensure the safety of the trailer and traveling floor.
