Tracy's New Limb and Medical Bills

Donation protected
My sister, Tracy Mueller-Schwem, could have never imagined asking for any type of help from anyone.  She would give her last penny to someone without hesitation.  So her family decided to create this page to help her get back on her feet (LITERALLY).  She is working towards a prosthetic limb which could be delayed because of the financial burdens associated and the other medical bills are already piling up.

Tracy has had Type 1 Diabetes for 30 years.  Unfortunately, the last 2 years of her life was spent battling with medical procedures on both of her feet, taking away her quality of life.  It started with a blister on the right foot and then a tiny heel crack on the left. She fought hard through it all.  She has an amazing podiatrist that tried everything humanly possible to help her with both situations but the infection on left foot wasn’t improving and her health kept declining.  She withdrew from her family and friends and wasn’t the same person anymore.

A few weeks ago her podiatrist called me after she was hospitalized and I knew it wasn’t good news.  He told me that if we do not amputate soon, she may die within a few days.  The infection had become uncontrollable and would eventually shut down her organs. There was no doubt in my mind on what we needed to do.  She was depressed and frustrated from the constant pain and unhappy with the life she was living. We were not going to let her die or give up.  We went straight to the hospital to see her.  We cried, hugged, and promised her that she WILL get her life back.  Tracy did not think twice about what she needed to do and agreed to the amputation.  The surgery happened on December 19, 2017 and when she woke up the next morning the first thing she said was “I feel better now than I have in years”.  This was the hardest decision she ever had to make but she was determined to live again.  The amputation saved her life and has given her a new outlook on her future.  She is ready to master the rehabilitation, get a prosthetic limb, and get back to walking!  We know that she cannot financially keep up with the cost of all that she’ll need (that insurance will not cover) and we want to do everything we can to help her.

Let’s help this loving, caring, selfless, sister, daughter, mother and friend get on her feet again. She has been such an inspiration with her positivity and ready to take on the world. She told me recently “I can’t wait to dance!”.  And I cannot wait to take her!!!

Thank you in advance to everyone that can help get her closer to walking and assist with the financial obligations. We know that not everyone can help financially but your thoughts and well wishes are appreciated.  For those who can help, your generosity will make a difference.  She is doing very well and healing up great.  Helping her when she’s too stubborn to ask for it will be a great gift.  Thank you again!
