Tracy's Cancer Journey

In late July, Tracy began experiencing pain in her abdomen that led her to seek medical attention. While many issues were found, the ultimate diagnosis was cancer. The word no family wants to hear. Bi-lateral Renal Cell Carcinoma, which means cancer in both kidneys. The prognosis is eventually to be cancer free! This type of cancer can be very curable and the specialists are attacking aggressively yet as minimally invasive as possible. Once the surgeries are completed she won't require any chemo or radiation. Overall she’s feeling okay; exercising to keep the strength up to fight this fight! Cancer comes with many other expenses than just needing health insurance. So myself and family/friends on behalf of Tracy want to help them through this journey.
The family has a high deductible health insurance plan which leaves them responsible for thousands of dollars in medical bills and the many appointments to KU Med and the KU Cancer Center in Overland Park has already stretched their budget thin. Progress: Previously in the year she had a severe and almost fatal blockage of her large intestine which resulted in a full removal and the placement of a stoma or commonly known as an ileostomy bag. I’m sure you can imagine that while they were relieved she survived this; what a lifestyle change this was for them and mostly her to endure.
After seeking medical attention for the new issue, they did an ultrasound and CT and she received the news that she not only had a parastomal hernia (painful bulge under the skin near where the opening for her bag is and can rupture, being dangerous) This is also when they found the masses in both her kidneys. Subsequent tests also found nodules in her right lung, and thus far, the specialists are hopeful they are not related.
She has seen 5 specialists, had additional testing; an IR ablation on her right kidney (inserted a probe directly into the tumor and burn it to kill in, in her case.)
Now she’s facing a 3-in-1 surgery on October 14th to fix the hernia, reverse her ostomy, which means no more ileostomy bag. They will also perform a partial nephrectomy on her left kidney (removing the cancer and the portion of the kidney the cancer has overtaken, leaving the rest of the healthy kidney in place.) The mass in her left kidney was too large for ablation. She will be hospitalized for a minimum of 5 days and will be recuperating for several weeks/months. She will have many follow up appointments throughout the end of 2020.
