A tractor for farm cooperatives

Donation protected
MODEF-Togo, is an organization that helps farmers in West Africa, particularly women. It wants to buy a tractor to support small scale farmers in cooperatives. These coops enable farmers to group their products, particularly organic soy, certified by ECOCERT. The tractor will be shared to plow land so that farmers, including 275 women from 36 villages in Togo can devote more time to the planting, weeding, and harvesting, not to mention their child care. MODEF provides seeds on credit at the beginning of the season and the farmers are able to pay back their debts without difficulty.  A new Massey Ferguson tractor costs  US$20,000, far more than any village or cooperative can afford.
By better tilling the soil and on a far larger scale, cooperative farmers can reap greater harvests, bring in higher profits, and guarantee more security for their families and their villages.  In addition, the augmented income should generate enough money to purchase a second tractor in only a few years.
The vision of MODEF: to create a society of equity and equality, justice and peace in which women and children are totally emancipated, enjoying their rights without any restriction, and living in absolute human dignity.
