Ellie's Emergency Surgery Fund

Ellie is well known by everyone who meets her for her energy, spunk, and sass. On Saturday, August 12th, she was struck by a car and we almost lost all of that. She had gotten spayed the week before, and due to the cone on her head she had to wear, she could not see it coming. We rushed her to the nearest emergency veterinarian who referred us to the University of Tennessee Veterinary Hospital in Knoxville, TN. The most obvious wound was a large laceration on her forehead, but it was not until later that we found out about the unseen damage inside. After she was admitted to UT, we learned that she had suffered a fracture in her front left leg and three fractures in her pelvis on the left side where the car struck her. Her pelvis had collapsed, blocking her pelvic canal causing her to be unable to void, much less walk.
Emergency surgery was performed on Monday. The surgeons could only give us a rough estimate of the cost due to the fact that it would be very complex and they did not know what they would be working with once they began. After 10 painstaking hours of surgery, they informed us of the wonderful news that they had reset her pelvis the way they wanted to, but the cost since then has only risen as other unseen complications have come up.
We have had Ellie since she was six weeks old, and in that time she has become an irreplaceable part of her family. We are so grateful that she is still with us and that she will get through this. She is a fighter and she has youth on her side, but the cost of her stay at UT and the multiple surgeries they had to perform are backbreaking to our family of college students juggling classes, work, and extra-curriculars.
