National Public Awareness Campaigns from COPI

Hi,
my name's Humphrey. I'm the founder of Central Office of Public Interest (COPI).

COPI is a people-powered creative industry group that runs national public awareness campaigns on environmental issues that affect all of us. We pool our collective skills & abilities and volunteer our time to do this, because we care about these issues.

We also know that effective awareness campaigns like the one we just ran on air pollution can change society, shift cultural norms and create real & lasting change. So we work together to do this. 

 

In 2019 I crowdfunded some money and together we ran a national campaign that has just shifted public awareness of invisible toxic air pollution to a whole new stratosphere. It's also changed the law and made air pollution disclosure a legal requirement in the property market, in the same way as Asbestos. The campaign will continue to generate deeper public understanding, awareness, action and change for years to come. You can watch the short film above on the campaign we ran.

At the centre of this campaign is a new public service. It's a website called addresspollution.org where people can check the air pollution levels at their address with a click.

It's free for people to use, and will remain so as long as we can keep it going.

We want this public service to stay up and running and we want to be able to input new data as and when it becomes available.

All of this carries significant costs. We'll need to pay for the new data year on year, website hosting, maintenance, data mapping, analytics, etc etc.

 

We'd also like to start getting on with the next campaigns: figuring out clever ways we can engage with the public and sort out the shocking state of the UK's rivers, and motivating the people in society least interested in fixing climate change, to become very interested in fixing climate change. 

 

All of this is possible, but it takes a lot of time & resource, and running big national campaigns like these sometimes needs a bit of money. There is only so much we can do with our time & collective skillset. Some costs are inevitable and unavoidable.

 

So I'm raising money to cover these costs, so that we can keep our new free public service addresspollution.org going long term, and continue to run these big campaigns for you, on issues that affect all of us.

 

COPI is a non-profit community interest company (CIC) powered by social capital and people-power.

No one is on a salary, and we have no big expensive office, or any office at all for that matter (if we need an office for anything we borrow one). We are not funded by any government department, political party, corporation, charity, private benefactor or foundation which means we can continue to run the kind of campaigns we run - fearless, hard-hitting, disruptive, and most importantly of all, highly effective. Aside from the funding our 2nd major national campaign (addresspollution.org) received in 2019 from the European Climate Foundation (ECF) for the essential costs to expand and launch addresspollution.org nationwide, we have as an organisation received no funding whatsoever.

 

So with almost no overheads, any money you pledge on here will go directly into keeping the current campaign website up and running, and  towards the essential, unavoidable costs ( billboards, building projections, newspapers ads, etc ) of the next big game-changing campaign.
