Tourmaline St. Pedestrian Project
We are creating a public micro park on city land at the Southeast corner of Tourmaline and Dawes. The park will be incorporated into a sidewalk installation (see City's plan pic) planned for February, 2021; we are currently in the design phase (cover photo is an artist’s rendering of possible ideas to use).
As this park will share the street with PB Elementary, our aim is to create an area with children and families in mind; something that says “Slow down, this street is for kids!” We hope PBE will partner with us as “guardeners”, helping to maintain the garden and the mini library. (Our designers are planning a tire swing and benches as well.)
Also, by greening up our street, we are working to help PB contribute towards meeting the City’s Climate Action Plan. The park will help remediate storm water runoff, capture carbon dioxide, provide energy saving shade, as well as habitat for birds, bees and butterflies. It will also be a place for community to meet, rest, and play.
If you cannot donate, please stop by once in a while and see how the park is progressing anyway! We hope more neighborhoods will be inspired to consider an undertaking of this kind.
Many thanks, from Sadie, Lyla, Izzy and Laurel!
