Touch Foundation (Treat Our Children Foundation) is a non-profit, non-government organization whose vision and goal is to create a school and home for orphan and abandoned children in India. Our desired location is in the state of Uttarkand, a few kilometers from Rishikesh, near the mountain side.
I take this privilege as an honor to be one of the project directors at Touch Foundation, promoting its interest from the Western part of the world. Having seen the situation and need, I am now on my way moving to India for full time to implement the project and dedicate my life to living with these innocent children and providing them with my unconditional love and support.
As you may already know, India is one of the poorest nations in the world, with a large population and a large number of orphans -- children whose both parents died, and children who have been abandoned. Today there are over 11 million abandoned babies in the country; ninety percent of these are little girls. India has more than 18 million children living on the streets. Orphanages are filled with abandoned children and millions more wander the streets just doing what they can to survive... The government's funding is not sufficient to care for all the orphans in India, and for the most part these children remain without attention and care that they deserve.
At Touch Foundation, we believe that every child deserves a childhood and a family, as well as an opportunity for learning and creativity. Every child deserves to grow up in a comfortable and loving environment, surrounded by kind hearts, support, gentle guidance, and unconditional love. Our project at Touch Foundation is to build a home and school for orphans and abandoned children, called Opportunity School -- that will be able to accommodate 100 children in the first stage, with potential for expansion in the following stages. The school will be located a few kilometers away from Rishikesh city, a beautiful city in the Himalayan foothills and on the banks of Ganga river. Aiming for location outside the city, we are hoping for a clean, un-polluted environment, in the nature and unaffected by the city's busy living. It will be a little paradise, ashram-like existence, with regular practice of Yoga and meditation, as well as Vedic studies, music and creativity projects, in addition to the main school curriculum. We will have great opportunities for volunteers to stay with us, by providing them with a perfect environment and living quarters. We also are planning to develop an ashram on the territory of the school, a little away from the main school campus. Any guests and visitors who are looking for a peaceful stay and to practice their Sadhana are welcome to stay there. We wil have a small temple on the territory, with a daily puja and other rituals as of Hindu calendar and other spiritual events.
The initial financial goal of 75, 000 USD is dedicated to the first stage of our project -- acquisition of land in the state of Uttarkand (India), on which the Opportunity School will be built. We are aiming to obtain 1,5 - 2 acres of land, which we find will be sufficient for constructing the school facilities and living quarters for the children, staff, and volunteers during the first stage of our project. During this stage, we are aiming to be able to accommodate 100 children and the sufficient amount of teachers/staff to live with us full time and be a part of our family. Further stages of the project will involve possible expansion of the building and school territory, to be able to incorporate additional programs and practices, and expand our volunteering opportunities.
