Madisyn's Australian Internship

Hello friends and family! I am excited to announce that I will be interning in Melbourne, Australia at a company called Theatre Works this summer. At Theatre Works I will primarily join the associate artistic team to work with director Tanya Gerstle during the development of a new production, POLYGRAPH, which will premiere while I am in Australia. While working with an independent theatre such as Theatre Works will be an incredible chance to learn about small production development, they have also put together the opportunity for me to work with mainstage Melbourne theatres such as Malthouse Theatre, Melbourne Theatre Company, and the Australian Opera.


While most of you know me as a performer, I am also interested in exploring the aspects of theatre having to do with creating a season surrounding a theatre’s mission statement and how a production is developed before and in a rehearsal room. Alongside assisting with the development of POLYGRAPH, I will be working with Theatre Works’ marketing team, designers, and observing general procedures of an independent theatre company. These experiences in several Melbourne theatres will provide me with insight on the theatre world which I have yet to see, and which will inspire the direction I take as I continue through this industry.


The drawback of a summer adventure such as this is that the usual forms of financial aid I am lucky to utilize during the school year diminish significantly. While I am still exploring several funding paths for this trip, I need your help getting me to and from the Outback! Flying across the world is expensive, and having my flight covered by your generous donations would allow my family to breathe easier and provide me with a few more dollars for groceries or postcards every week (ha!). All jokes aside, if any of you know my parents, they are the type of people who encourage Noah and I to take any opportunity that comes our way and always assure us that we will figure out expenses later. With your help of funding my flights we would not have to take out another student loan to pay for this trip. I know that several of you are poor college students just like me, but even $5 (one less Starbucks), goes a long way.
