Total Station for Archaeology at Halmyris

Tax deductible
For the 2019 field season, Archaeology at Halmyris (www.halmyris.org ), with the support of the Bridging Frontiers non-profit, is fundraising to purchase a Total Station for the excavation.

Halmyris is a Roman fort located near the Danube Delta, Romania, and has been excavated by a team of international volunteers for the past few decades -- Archaeology at Halmyris brings c.40 volunteers to the site annually, ranging from archaeology students to retired world-travellers.

A Total Station allows for points to be geo-referenced in latitude and longitude as well as recording elevation from sea-level, which enables us to build digital 3D maps and locate specific finds in those maps.

In 2018 we were lucky to have a one-time loan of a total station, and it was a resounding success in terms of on-site data recording and opportunities for our students to learn advanced techniques in survey and recording.

We have found one for $3,000 which we hope to use for the next decade at Halmyris, as we continue to expand and advance our volunteer-based excavation.

We would be very grateful for any support you might be able to offer!
