In 1993, Tory took a direct hit from a tornado. She was caught in the cyclone and thrown 200 feet. Tory and her mother were found several hours later. Her mother didn’t survive and Tory was left paralyzed from her waist down. She fought hard and struggled for a while. When the odds are stacked against her she never gives up. She was told she wouldn’t be able to do the things that most of us take for granted. I personally have seen her do many things and take on tasks that other people wouldn’t. She’s rode four wheelers, Jet Ski, participated in other events and helped clean up after recent tornados. If you know Tory you know she is a fighter!
On May 5th, Tory began her second courageous and life altering fight against Septic Shock and Necrotizing Fasciitis. She was stricken with a disease so rare but so insidious that many have taken to calling it “flesh-eating bacteria .” Necrotizing Fasciitis, the official medical diagnosis, is a rapidly spreading and very serious bacterial infection that literally destroys the body’s tissues.
After numerous tests and lab work the doctor’s immediately sent her to the operating room. They told her oldest daughter that if they had waited two or the three days longer to get her to the hospital she wouldn’t have survived. Tory has had a total of three surgeries in two months. The most recent (June 11th) to remove the dead tissue doctor’s found on the June 9th.
After days of uncertainty, Tory’s body started to fight the infection, her body was accepting the antibiotics and things were looking a little better. Doctors have said she will be in the hospital for a long time. Tory will be sent to the Shepherd Center in Atlanta when she is released to have reconstructive surgery. Against all odds...with the prayers & support of family, friends and strangers, it is truly a miracle that she survived.
Tory has the responsibility of juggling her two children and making sure they are taken care of while she is in the hospital. Thankfully she has a large support system and everyone has been great at pitching in to see their needs are met.
Needless to say, there will be a financial strain on her as she is a single mom and sole provider of her household. She will be out of work for some time. If there is any donation you can make to help her get through this difficult time, it would be greatly appreciated.
