Galapagos Tortoise Documentary

Donation protected
Hello! Thank you for visiting my GoFundMe page.

Myself in a nutshell:
My name is Cassia Armstrong. I am a student-athlete (softball) at Trinity College in Hartford, CT.  I have a passion for volunteering in human rights and environmental activism projects. I am double majoring in Chemistry and Environmental Science. I am also a photographer, cinematographer, and video editor. I have directed many of my own projects, and have also worked for the What Were We Thinking Films crew (New Haven, CT) on multiple documentaries and music videos (two of which were featured in Rolling Stone).

This project:
In June 2018, the Trinity College Environmental Science Department is sending a dozen students and two skilled professors to the Galapagos Islands to conduct research on giant tortoises. I hope to take advantage of this incredible opportunity to film a short documentary about giant tortoises in the Galapagos Islands, which have been devastated by human colonization, exploitation, and invasive species. Specifically, the documentary will focus on the scientific research and efforts being done to restore giant tortoise populations. The story would follow the work we accomplish, as well as interviewing other expert scientists on-site, and interviewing residents of the Galapagos Islands about their thoughts regarding local environmental issues and tortoise restoration efforts.

My career goals include communicating science and encouraging conservation/sustainability through photography and film. It is my hope that my scientific background, passion, and creative influence will provide a unique point of view that will make an impact in this field.

Reward Levels? Heck ya!
Don't worry, I know not everyone has money to just throw away, no matter how awesome of a project this may be. That's why I hope to give back in a way that is not only fun, but practical.

Have questions about the reward levels? I'm open to accommodating a photography or videography project that suits you so you get your money's worth. Please contact me with questions by posting to this project's Facebook Page!

*PLEASE NOTE: ALL REWARD LEVELS ARE CUMULATIVE. PHOTOGRAPHY SESSION REWARDS LIMITED BY TRANSPORTATION AVAILABILITY, PLEASE CONTACT ME IF YOU ARE OUTSIDE THE VANCOUVER BC OR HARTFORD CT AREA*

What are the donations for?
The Galapagos Islands are home to some of the world's most amazing species, and richest biodiversity. As such, the islands are heavily protected, and the costs for permits to access protected land and conduct research are high. In addition to these costs, airfare, transportation, accommodations, and food are also neccessary evils which add to the total expenses.

As I will also be conducting research on this trip, you will be funding not only a project *about* tortoise research, but you will also be funding the research itself!

Any funds which exceeed the $5,000 goal would go toward the documentary and photographs. This money would go toward improved film equipment (tripod, SD cards, batteries, lenses), as well as for hiring artists who can create interesting drawings for the video, and also for production costs such as prints, DVDs, outreach, etc.
