THE MONSTER & SEA 24 TORONTO | A 24 hour paddle for local families battling cancer.

8am Saturday April 14th - 8am Sunday April 15th, 2018
Mississauga Canoe Club, Port Credit

We're at it again for our third year running and hope, with your help, to continue to help local families battling cancer head-on! This year is a special year - we have partnered with a local children’s hospital who will be helping us make the connection with families that have a child in the fight.
In the Monster and Sea tradition, there is no middle man, no red tape. All money goes directly to families in need, making a real difference in peoples lives.
Since 2016 we've helped 13 local families in need. Can we help 4 more families this year?
Please read on to find out what inspired this event and how you can help out!

WAIT DON'T SKIP THIS PART! There is an open invitation to anyone that would like to participate and support the team, to join us on the water anytime during our paddle, or just swing by to say hello! This year we are also hoping to get a nice big group on the water with us for our final hour from 7-8am on Sunday April 15th to show just how incredible our paddling community is! So load up your gear, set that alarm clock and help us bring this event home! (but of course visitors are welcome any hour of the day and night!)

Launch location: The Mississauga Canoe Club

THE MONSTER & SEA 24 HOUR PADDLE STORY..

During spring of 2015, a team of 6 paddlers out of Seattle, WA paddled 24 hours to raise money for families in their community in the fight with cancer. The event was inspired by one of the members of the team, Troy Nebeker, who himself was in this fight when his wife was diagnosed. From that day forward, he decided we all need to live life to the fullest; go just because we can and give back whenever we can. That was the birth of the organization Monster & Sea - the monster being cancer and the Sea being where he found inspiration and strength - and with it, the first 24 hour paddle for cancer. The plan was to create a grassroots event where every dollar raised was stuffed into an envelope and handed directly to a family in the fight, no middle man.

Troy and his team blew past their fundraising goals and the event exceeded all expectations in donations and support both locally and from the global paddling community! They were able to stuff 7 envelopes with the funds raied and give them to 7 families battling cancer head on! Just amazing. He decided that since they had stuffed 7 envelopes in 2015, the goal would be to have 7 teams on the water the following year.
We were honoured here in Toronto to be asked to be one of those seven teams. That was the birth of the Monster and Sea 24 Toronto Team!

A little video from Toronto year one, back in 2016:

The 24 has attracted so much support over the past few years that by 2017 it had 22 communities across North America involved that collectively helped raise over 145k for families in need!

WHERE WILL THE MONEY GO YOU ASK?

Well, here in Canada we are very lucky to have amazing health coverage to help cover individual treatment expenses, but what is not covered are the additional day to day expenses, the potential loss of income, and all of those things you cannot monetize; stress, anxiety, fear.....they have an even greater cost.
In the Monster & Sea tradition, we will give all funds raised to families in the fight.....in the hopes of providing a break in the chaos.

A SPECIAL PARTNERSHIP THIS YEAR
This year we have partnered with a local children’s hospital and will be donating some of the funds raised to families with children battling cancer.

OUR LOCAL TEAM......

We are honoured to be participating in this event for the third year running and to be joining a growing global community of 24 teams!
I think I speak for our whole group when I say that paddling is what we love and what we know how to do; if we can make a difference and give back through our paddling, that is the best gift we could be given. An opportunity to "paddle with a purpose”.

Our goal for this year is to raise $5000 and help 5 families in need!

Thank you everyone for your generous support! Know that your donations will go to a great place and will make a difference in peoples lives. We truly appreciate all donations but please know, support comes in many shapes and forms so even if you are not able to make a donation, there are many other ways to give! Come paddle, hang out with us or just send a message with your "hoorays"! : )

Sincerely,

Jess and the M&S 24 Toronto Paddle Team!
