Torn Cruciate Surgery for Miley

Many of you might remember Miley, one of our longest residents. Smiley Miley is the sweetest girl who was surrendered last April through no fault of her own (her owners moved and couldn’t take her). She was the life of the party, a staff favorite, and one of the best girls! None of us could figure out why she was still here after 9 long months.

Then, in January, she started limping. After many vet consultations and medicine/rest, it was discovered that she had a torn cruciate, which is basically an ACL tear in dogs. A wonderful foster stepped up and took her into her home in February, to give her the rest she needed to try to heal and hopefully not need surgery. Then, she tore her other leg!

Pit bulls are susceptible to torn cruciate ligaments, but this poor girl seemed to be extra prone to them. After a lot of back and forth, it was decided that she needed surgery on both legs to fully heal and be able to live out her best life. This surgery is quite expensive, and we’ve been trying to explore our options. Previously, we were only going to be able to send her to Annapolis and were dreading how much it was going to be.

Now, Dr. Haberstroh from Peninsula Animal Hospital has stepped up and is graciously helping us. It is still going to be quite expensive, but relative to the procedure, we are getting a very good deal. Each leg is going to cost about $4,500 ($9,000 total). As many of you have likely already seen or read, we are out of space and have been struggling for a while. We have so many other sick and needy dogs in our care. It seems like when we cover the costs for one problem, another immediately arises!

However, this surgery is beyond the realms of our resources and funding, and we are humbly asking you to please donate what you can, even if it’s just a few dollars.
