Tori Christine’s Wheelchair Van

September 24, 2024

Hello everyone, this is an update on our situation, one that I just kept hoping would get better but it hasn’t…

Because of the kindness and generosity of those that donated previously we actually still have the van!!! Sadly, Tori and I still need help, really serious help right now to get a little above water. Please help if you possibly can and at least please share to get the word out!

Tori finally got her ceiling lift and her custom wheelchair!!! We have to have adjustments made on the chair but it is quite amazing!

Due to changes in our domestic circumstances and the stressful situation we’re in, which has affected our entire lives, family and friends,
it’s just Tori and I, on our own now, with no other financial support.

For those that know me, I’ve been trying to get help to do a huge yard sale or two, we have lots & LOTS of stuff, I just can’t do it alone. That would help us greatly so I’m not giving up on it!

Hi, my name is Crystal Guynes and I’m still trying to raise funds to pay/help pay for the used wheelchair van I purchased in March of 2022 to get my daughter, Tori, to the many medical appointments she needs for her care. Please consider helping and/or at least sharing!!! Thank You So Much

In 2021, the night before her 39th birthday, Tori’s 11 year old daughter found her on the floor of her bedroom, she was in cardiac arrest, with a severely broken neck and lacerated liver; with no other signs of trauma. Her daughter got Tori’s son from his room, 14 years old then, he called 911 and performed CPR on his mother until help arrived, just a few minutes later.

Tori did survive but suffered severe anoxic brain damage and is now a spastic quadriplegic due to her spinal cord injury.

I brought her home in February of 2022 to care for her myself, she’s fared much better since coming home!

As you may recognize, the timing of this was during Covid… The pandemic wiped out my husband’s travel related business of 32 years and we’ve still not recovered.
I am Tori’s main caregiver, she requires 24/7 care.

I also want to say that there’s so much more I’d like people to understand about this situation so they can know why it’s so dang hard. We put over $10k down on the van, the conversion is called a long cut, rear entry, which is what her condition requires-it’s a $15k conversion! My light bill is almost double the norm, now at $400 a month, because of the equipment that has to run all the time; water is also higher & we easily spend over $700 +/-, every month on essentials for her care, including special wound care supplies that aren’t provided by insurance. There’s also gas and parking fees every time we go to TIRR and/or her doctor's downtown. It just goes on and on…

Thank you for stopping to hear our story and for any prayers or help you can give; I’m just trying to keep the home and the van, but really struggling to do both!!
