Topsham Community Emergency Safety Program

My name is Nick Cusano and I am a senior at Mount Ararat High School. I have been volunteering at the Topsham Fire Department since 2015. Through my experience, I have learned of a great need in our community: residential Knox boxes.

Currently, if someone in our community is having an emergency (medical or otherwise) and the fire department arrives to assist them, the door must be broken down to gain access if they are unable to answer. This creates an expensive and possibly hazardous situation.

Knox boxes are a safety box which is located on the outside of a building or house that contains a key the fire department can use to get in. Currently, most businesses in Tophsam have them, but few private residences do.

These boxes are available through the Fire Department at a cost of approximately $200 each. My goal for my senior Capstone project is to raise enough money to provide residential Knox boxes at no cost to ten members of the community who are in need of them. I also would like to continue this work beyond my graduation.

Thank you for your consideration. I hope you can support this important project which will help keep those in need in our community safe!

Sincerely,
Nick Cusano
