Top Surgery for Teddy

Donation protected
Hi, I'm Teddy, I'm trans and I need to get something off my chest - Well, two somethings. Unfortunately it's a fairly expensive procedure, so I need your help to do it.

I’ve been thinking about top surgery since 2016 when I experienced the most profound relief and euphoria I’d ever felt as I tried on a binder for the first time. Looking down to see a flatter chest brought me to tears, and it was incredible to see how well my clothes fit, but wearing a binder every day isn’t a long term solution to my busty conundrum. Binders aren’t comfortable to wear all day - particularly in summer! The way that work makes it hard to breathe, they are difficult to put on and take off, and due to the size of my breasts, even when I’m sitting at a desk all day I still need to get up every 20 minutes to adjust it. Long term wear can cause rib and spinal damage. I can’t exercise safely or comfortably when I wear a binder. I feel sick and embarrassed when people see me without a binder on, and even when I’m wearing once, I am constantly, painfully aware of what it is hiding. It is impossible to have a good quality of life while I have to wear a binder every day, my mental and physical health are deteriorating while I wait for this life saving surgery.

I have seen the change that top surgery has brought to the lives of my friends, and the difference is amazing! They are happier, healthier, and more confident. If you are able to donate to my top surgery fund you will help change my life.

I have been on the waiting list for a consultation with the Monash Gender Clinic since mid-2019, but in December I received a letter from them informing me that the estimated wait would be 4+ years. With the pandemic delaying existing appointments, it is likely that the wait for an initial consultation will be over 5 years, which means I will turn 40 before I am able to speak to anyone about surgery. I have spent weeks searching for any other public waiting lists that might be a bit shorter, including calling several hospitals and trans health organisations, but found nothing. I tried to put some savings aside - I moved in with a friend to save money on rent and utilities so that I could have some money spare each pay. Unfortunately, the week before I moved I lost my job, and a week after I moved the country began shutting down due to Covid-19, which has made finding a new job pretty challenging. I even tried to convince my friends who are doctors that I am open to them testing their surgical skills on me if they want to learn how to do top surgery - I can’t decide if I’m relieved or frustrated that they’re too ethical to put my life at risk like that. I’m getting desperate, I want to feel safe and comfortable in my body before I turn 40.

If I am able to raise the funds I need via donations I will be able to give up my place on the waiting list for someone else who needs it. I would really appreciate if you could circulate my GoFundMe to your contacts - every little bit helps!

Thank you so much for reading.

Love,

Teddy
