Too young, cancer won't win!! #PowersStrong

{UPDATE at the bottom} Chris Powers is in for the fight of his life against stage IV Glioblastoma malignant brain cancer. His faith rests in Jesus Christ and your diligent prayers and outpouring of love will help Chris beat this terrible disease. Chris, just 37, is a loving father of 3 growing children, an incredible husband, and friend to all. Emili and Chris have given their lives to God, and would like to grow old together by spoiling grandchildren and experiencing life to the fullest with their children.

It’s just the beginning of this battle and doctor bills are already starting to pile up. As we all know, this growing financial burden can weigh heavily. As they’ve been preparing for this fight they’ve had to go through many tests and appointments and will continue to do that for the unforeseen future. They’ve been grasping at hope as the unknown future is already tugging at them. The possibility of having to travel to a different state for treatment and living in an unknown place, or the daily back and forth to the hospital, and all the challenges in between is a suffocating feeling of unknowns.

During this unprecedented time in their world, they would love and appreciate any prayers and/or financial support that you are capable of providing. Chris, Emili, Carter, Camryn, and Carson are thankful for the outpouring of love and support from family, friends, and colleagues everywhere.

We will continue to keep you all updated as he will be in and out of treatment. Prayer requests for now, time is not on our side and decisions need to be made quickly. Pray for the right doctors to be put in their path, open doors for the right procedures and treatment, and time!!! Time!!!! Time!!!! We love you all. Hold them in your prayers.

Chris Update: Well God is good, but of course we already knew that! Yesterday was tough, our treatment plan was looking as though radiation and Chemo were our only options. But today brought so much more hope! We spoke with the Oncologist and Neurosurgeon at OHSU who were appointed to us thanks to an amazing email from Tim Boyle at Columbia on Chris’s behalf! (If you don’t shop Columbia you should now, incredible company who looks out for their employees)!
They are confident they can operate and remove some of the tumor! Which will give the treatments so much more opportunities to kill or stop the growth. There will be more options for trials and treatment after the surgery so we are very hopeful this is the door God is leading us through.
Surgery is scary to think about as it will be an “awake craniotomy” but Chris isn’t scared and is hoping to come out of it with a second language and singing skills! Our specific prayer requests are: that the doctors will be able to take most of the tumor without harming any of Chris’s functions, that Providence Insurance would approve our appeal and cover in-network (at this time they are not), and that God would continue to transform lives through Chris! We love you all so much and can feel the power of prayers for sure!!

This news is incredible but OHSU is unfortunately out of network, and so are the other hospitals working on treatments for them. There will be a lot of out of pocket expenses. The last thing this sweet family (and Chris) needs is to worry about money being a factor between them and Chris getting the best treatment and best chance at fighting this tumor. We will rise up and fight this battle with them, let’s help by loving on this family and taking some of their burden away!! Thank you all from the bottom of all of our hearts! #PowersStrong
