Tony's rally against cancer Round 3

Donation protected
Thank you Tony and Kathryn for allowing me to share his story with everyone. They are both independent and private people, but they have allowed me to  help them by trying to raise enough money to help with day to day expenses, whilst Tony will be undergoing treatment.

“Tony, you have Cancer for the 3rd time”

These are the words Tony Woods, 48 heard just 9 days before Christmas 2016. Tony is famous for his contagious smile, no matter what life throws at him, but it is getting harder for him to smile these days.

Tony was first diagnosed with Bowel Cancer at the age of 34 yrs in 2004. After 6 months of Chemo and surgery to remove a third of his bowel Tony, still smiling, thought he’d seen the last of Cancer.

4 years later, in 2008, Tony started coughing up blood. For the next 9 months he visited many Specialist doctors who diagnosed everything except Cancer. Even when a lump was found of 3cm x 3cm in the right lung, the doctors said it wasn’t Cancer. It was only when his GP found the lump was now 14cm that the Oncologists listened.

“We are really sorry, but you DO have Cancer and we believe you have 2 months to sort out your affairs” Tony was told. The doctors decide not to operate. Thankfully his GP pushed the same doctors to “Give Tony a chance.” They removed as much of Tony’s right lung as they could, followed up with an  Intense Chemotherapy cocktail for 6 months. Radiation followed. The doctors had to stop it after 13 treatments as his organs started to fail.

In 2016 Tony’s life started to turn for the better when he moved to Loch and became engaged to his girlfriend, Kathryn. Life was looking good.  Tony had changed his line of work and was enjoying planning for the future with a wedding planned for November 2017. Tony developed a lump on his neck in May but, despite his Medical History, doctors refused to investigate, saying “It’s nothing, it will go away.”

Nine days before Christmas Tony was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma.  If that wasn’t enough, just 7 days later, the family dog Grace, whom Tony was very attached to lost her fight with Lymphoma on Christmas Eve.

Tony  is now waiting for Chemotherapy for the 3rd time. He still greats you with that smile no matter what life throws his way.  His fiancé, who has a Chronic Illness herself, is dedicated to help him get better. She travels the 1.5 hr Trip each way into the Alfred hospital, often getting home at 11pm.

The bills, mortgage and costs of travel and parking are never ending causing undue stress for Tony and Kathryn. Tony has used all his Sick leave and their savings and he knows he is unable to work again, due to damage from past treatments. Kathryn is unable to work as she is Tony's carer. They are in danger of loosing their home if the mortgage can't be met. Medical bills are piling up and the costs of living have to be met somehow.

Your donation, no matter how small, can do so much good. Can you help Tony regain his quality of life?
