Let me tell you about my mother, Tonya. She is a daughter, a mom, and a huge fighter. She is funny, full of life, strong and beautiful. She is also fighting for her life. She was diagnosed with breast cancer. This news was very tough to handle, but she is ready to go full force and fight it off.
Right now, she is no longer able to work due to side effects from 5 months of chemo treatments, a very invasive lumpectomy that left her with scar tissue and the need for physical therapy, over 6 weeks of radiation, and it doesn't seem to slow down from there.
Just before her last few radiation treatments, my mom had to have emergency gallbladder surgery: her gallbladder had to be removed immediately (chemo gave her a ton of side effects, this being one of them). Shortly after her surgery, she was struggling with sharp pains in her side, and went back to find out she had blood pockets from where her gallbladder had been.
She is suffering from nephropathy in both her hands and feet, swelling in her ankles and constant chronic fatigue. These side effects are now preventing her from being able to perform daily tasks, which leaves her not able to work. She is out of short-term disability, and does not have an income.
Fast forward to today, she is taking it day-by-day, keeping a positive attitude and keeping up on both her physical and emotional health.
