Tonya Knight Dorgan Family

On October 4, 2017, Tonya had surgery to remove part of her colon. On the 4th day post-op, the doctors discovered that there was a leak, and that the contents of her colon were leaking into her abdominal cavity. This caused septic shock, which is a life-threatening condition where the immune system is trying to fight the infection in the blood stream, and it causes inflammation throughout the entire body. This, in turn, compromised her lungs and heart, and then her kidneys started failing. She was airlifted from Rockwall to Dallas, and she's now on dialysis and a ventilator. She has been kept sedated so that she isn't aware of the pain, all the tubes in her body, and all of the medical procedures and surgeries being done to her. Tonya has a very long road to recovery. We don't know when she will wake up, but the doctors have said that she will be in the hospital for months. We do have faith that she will recover, because this woman is a fighter! She has already survived breast cancer and a heart valve replacement!

So, why have we started this page? Tonya's husband (Terry) and their 4 daughters (Whitnee, Leslee, Shelia, and Lacy) all live about 3 hours from the Dallas hospital. Terry has been in Rockwall and Dallas the entire 2 weeks, so far, staying at nearby hotels. The girls are driving back and forth, sometimes staying in Dallas, and sometimes driving back home to care for their kids. As you can imagine, this has become very expensive. Even the cheaper hotels near the hospital will cost over $2500 per month, not to mention having to eat takeout or in the hospital cafeteria for every meal.
