Toni’s Volunteer Expedition to Fiji

Helping the less privileged is something I’ve always been passionate about. When I was 15 I decided to establish a foundation called the Ireti Foundation which organises events some at improving problems in rural communities in Nigeria. And while asking God to show me what he wants me to do this year 2018, he revealed this opportunity to me- a one month opportunity to go and volunteer in a Fijian village! While on this expedition I would be living with a family in a remote village, where over one third of children grow up in poverty and where over 200 schools were damaged during Cyclone Winston in February 2016. While living with this family, I would be teaching at a kindergarten, working with the children to improve their reading, writing and speaking skills as well as assisting in building infrastructure projects. The aim is to empower disadvantaged children and youth and to help them overcome poverty as well as the severe health issues. And if you know me personally you know I love children and I’m very passionate about improving the education system hence why this seems like the perfect opportunity for me to do this. Through this project my aim is to gain a deeper insight into the rural life and use my skills to make a personal difference in the life of these children. I hope to immerse myself into the local culture, challenge myself and contribute globally. To achieve my goal of volunteering and supporting the project in Fiji, I am aiming to raise £2,200. This includes my travel costs, donations to the community and to the charity. Over one third of this funding will be used directly to support the children in Fiji by supplying resources, helping to re-build and equip schools and supporting long term educational initiatives for children and local teachers. I hope you can assist me to reach my goal so I can make my ambition to volunteer on this project a reality.
