I am in the fight of a lifetime. A fight to keep each day going and watch my kids and grandkids grow. I am asking for your support and help to fund this fight.
Here is my story.
December 31, 2013, 3 years after becoming a grandpa for the first time, I was diagnosed with carcinoid cancer. I knew this battle was going to be rough. A journey with no cure in sight. Having watched both my mom and brother suffer through and lose their battle with the same disease I wanted to fight my hardest.
Having a rare cancer, and a family history of it sometimes is a blessing. Doctors want to pick and poke and scan you. Researching and learning all they can. Being a high school teacher for over 33 years I appreciated their search for knowledge. It gave me hope I would be able to enjoy my grandchildren for as long as possible.
In August 2017 I was told to "Get my affairs in order" It's never something you want to hear. It means your treatments options have run out. You and your family have to begin preparing for the worst and its no way to live.
February 2018, a new hope was given. A new treatment was approved by the FDA to treat carcinoid cancer! A new road was shown, one that would allow me to continue this fight not only for myself but my family who may need this treatment one day.
The new treatment needs to me to travel to MD Anderson every 2 months for 8 months. Now being retired the treatment and travel expense are adding up. Right now funds, airline tickets or travel points and hotel rewards will make these treatments possible.
