Tom is a very outgoing, fun loving, man with the biggest sense of humor! Married to the love of his life, Crystal for the past 4 years and is a father of 4 beautiful daughters. He has been a corrections officer for 14 years and enjoys watching the AZ Cardinals football and spending time with family and friends.
What all started in March 2017 with cough/cold symptoms, multiple doctor visits, 3 different antibiotics, allergy meds, prednisone, X-rays, CT scans, ultrasounds, blood work, emergency room visits, biopsies, and a PET scan. Finding a softball size mass in the mediastinum (mid chest) that had compressed the superior vena cava, causing superior vena cava syndrome. A normal vena cava is supposed to be 24mm and his is compressed to 3mm. Since the blood flow is not flowing properly in the vena cava, it has caused a blood clot. He was experiencing upper body and face swelling and would turn a blue/grey color at times.
Later he started finding it difficult to work, that normal activity was becoming strenuous and causing difficulty breathing.
August 29th we had an appointment with an oncologist to go over the latest biopsy results of the mass and revealed diffuse large B cell lymphoma. Doctor admitted him right away to do a bone marrow biopsy and to start chemotherapy.
August 31st, he completed his first round of chemo that went well. He will need to complete 6 sessions of chemo every 3 weeks. He is also getting twice a day injections at home for the blood clot and taking blood thinner medications. As a result, hospital bills, doctor visits, and prescriptions have become very costly. Please find it in your heart to help this young family reduce these unexpected expenses.
