Our beloved Tommy is 7 years old (black and white kitty) and was recently diagnosed with hemobartonella, a serious disease transmitted by fleas or ticks that affects red blood cells and can be life-threatening if not treated in time.

On top of that, his tests also showed elevated liver levels, which is making the treatment more complicated and prolonged. He has been hospitalized and needs constant care, medication, tests, and frequent veterinary follow-ups and he's currently being fed by a feeding tube. The treatment costs are becoming overwhelming for us, but we don’t want to give up on him, he deserves every chance to recover.

Tommy has been part of our family since 2018, when we adopted him. Just a few months later we also adopted Vicky, his inseparable sister. Some time after, we started an Instagram for them, @catzzone, where we shared their adventures and walks.

Over time we began supporting small businesses by buying accessories for them, and eventually, they became models for several shops. This inspired me to try making accessories myself, and that’s how I started learning crochet, which later became my small business @petzzonecreations.

All of this started because of Tommy and Vicky. They inspired this journey and truly changed my life. Tommy has always been such a cuddly boy, who loves to sleep right next to me almost every night .

Now it’s our turn to fight for him. Any help, no matter how small, will make a difference in giving Tommy the chance to stay with us. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

Today we received some more important information about Tommy’s condition. He is still hospitalized, and the vet explained that his liver is enlarged and that he has also developed an infection in the gallbladder. To help with this, a new antibiotic will be added to his treatment.

Even though the lab suggested stopping doxycycline to focus only on the new infection, the vet decided to continue doxycycline since there are only 8 days left of the 28-day course. She didn’t want to risk stopping now and then having to start the whole treatment from the beginning again. The hope is that Tommy will be able to tolerate both antibiotics at the same time.

Once the doxycycline treatment is finished and we confirm if the hemobartonella is gone, the next step will be addressing his liver problems, which developed as a result of this whole process.

O nosso querido Tommy tem 7 anos (gatinho preto e branco) e recentemente foi diagnosticado com hemobartonela, uma doença grave transmitida por pulgas ou carraças que afeta os glóbulos vermelhos e pode ser fatal se não for tratada a tempo.

Além disso, os exames mostraram que o Tommy também tem os níveis do fígado elevados, o que está a complicar e a prolongar ainda mais o tratamento. Ele tem estado internado e precisa de cuidados constantes, medicação, análises e acompanhamento veterinário frequente e atualmente está a ser alimentado por uma sonda de alimentação. Os custos dos tratamentos estão a tornar-se muito pesados para nós, mas não queremos desistir dele. Ele merece todas as hipóteses de recuperar.

O Tommy faz parte da nossa família desde 2018, quando o adotámos. Poucos meses depois adotámos também a Vicky, a sua inseparável irmã. Um tempo mais tarde criámos um Instagram para eles, @catzzone, onde partilhávamos momentos das suas aventuras e passeios.

Com o tempo começámos a apoiar pequenos negócios comprando acessórios para eles e, mais tarde, eles tornaram-se modelos de várias lojas. Foi graças a isso que nasceu em mim a vontade de experimentar fazer os meus próprios acessórios,

e assim comecei a aprender crochet, até abrir o meu pequeno negócio @petzzonecreations.

Tudo isto começou por causa do Tommy e da Vicky. Eles inspiraram esta jornada e mudaram a minha vida. O Tommy sempre foi um gato muito mimoso, que gosta de dormir encostado a mim quase todas as noites .

Agora é a nossa vez de lutar por ele. Qualquer ajuda, por mais pequena que seja, fará toda a diferença para dar ao Tommy a oportunidade de continuar ao nosso lado. Obrigada de coração.

Hoje tivemos mais informações importantes sobre o estado do Tommy. Ele continua internado, e a veterinária explicou-nos que o fígado está aumentado e que ele desenvolveu também uma infeção na vesícula biliar. Para ajudar nesta parte, será iniciado um novo antibiótico.

Apesar de no laboratório terem sugerido interromper a doxiciclina para tratar apenas a nova infeção, a veterinária optou por manter a doxiciclina, já que faltam apenas 8 dias para completar os 28 dias de tratamento. A preocupação dela é que, ao parar agora, o tratamento contra a hemobartonela tivesse de ser reiniciado do zero. O objetivo é que o Tommy consiga tolerar bem os dois antibióticos em simultâneo.

Quando terminar a fase da doxiciclina e confirmarmos se a hemobartonela foi eliminada, o próximo passo será tratar os problemas no fígado que resultaram de todo este processo.
