Tommy's Rehabilitation

Donation protected
On Oct 1st my wife witnessed a man throwing a garbage bag from his vehicle at the train tracks in our neighborhood where she then saw a dog roll out of the bag.  We tried to get a hold of him with the assistance of animal control and some good Samaritans in the neighborhood, but he was able to avoid us for hours and wouldn't come near anyone or let anyone near him.

The following morning we saw a post on Nextdoor asking if anyone was missing a dog, and it was the little guy that we saw the day prior that evaded capture.  We got in touch with the woman that made the post and came by to try and lure him into our vehicle, but he took off again.  Later that day he ended up following a neighbor of the woman into their garage and was able to get a hold of him to kennel him and get in touch with us.

At that moment, little Tommy's life would change forever.  While in the search of Tommy, we were working with a K9 retrieval service that was able to come by and help us remove a lot of hair matting, scan for a microchip, and assist us in filing legal paperwork for an abandoned dog.  After that was done, we made our way to the vet to remove additional matting, burrs, and get him checked out for an overall wellness check.  After getting a clean bill of health, we took him home to give him a bath, spoil him with love, frequent long walks, introduction to his new family, and the start of his long journey of rehabilitation and lifelong happiness.

What we'll be using the funds for:
With any adoption of a new dog, there are a number of vet related things that need to be done, along with equipment, toys, and treats that need to be bought.  With Tommy though, we're looking at having to do the following, which will be costly.
- Hire a private trainer for obedience training due to the abuse and neglect Tommy has experienced with his past
- Neutering
- Initial shots done to get him up to date
- Microchip
- Dog licensing
- Long overdue grooming
- Any equipment we might need for him
- and lots and lots of treats and toys for training

Once we feel Tommy is at a comfortable spot, any additional funds will be donated to the Animal Humane Society to further help animals in need.

How soon do we need the funds?
We're expecting to use our own finances for Tommy's new life with us, but we're reaching out to ask for help from you to assist in the up front costs to rehabilitate a dog that was clearly abused and neglected.  Any help will be greatly appreciated to offset some of the costs that we're expecting with Tommy while we get him to be a happy, healthy, and less fearful dog.

Tommy entered our lives as a neglected and fearful pup.  We want to be able to give him the best life that we can offer him so that he can love meeting strangers, go to dog parks with us and our other dog, stop terrorizing our cats, and live out the rest of his life in a loving, caring, and safe home.

We will be grateful for any additional financial help to get over the initial months of a new dog adoption.  All funds will be spent towards rehabilitating Tommy until he's at a comfortable spot.
