Tommy Levario's Health Campaign

It was around 7:00 pm on a typical sunny summer afternoon when I took off from home on my tribike for a one hour bike ride.  The first part of my workout was along a 4-lane median divided roadway with dedicated protected bike lanes. As I rode in the bike lane, I settled into my typical pace based on my age and heart rate, and then I'm suddenly in the ICU of St. David's Hospital in Round Rock. I was struck by a distracted driver.  The doctors worked hours over night to repair a life threatening spinal cord injury, along with 8 fractured ribs, a head injury, severe road rash on both arms and legs, a severed tongue, and a fractured shoulder. They informed the family my survival probability was low as 35%. With God watching over me, guiding the surgeon's hands, and with the loving support of my family, we beat the odds. After a week in ICU, I'm was transferred into the Rehabilitation Hospital and began the long road to recovery. I'm currently paralyzed from the chest down but I'm determined and truly believe I will improve.  How much? Only time will tell.  I'm projected to be in the rehab hospital  for 6 weeks, then I will be allowed to go home for 2-3 months. After that, I'll be admitted  back into the rehab hospital for another 4-6 weeks for more intense therapy. My new life as a paraplegic will require  not only modifications to home and auto for ADA compliance but also medical help (supplies and assistance) for the rest of my life. Even with my insurance covering many of the costs, the financial demands are huge and continue to grow everyday.  My family, and friends recognize this and have offered to help alleviate the financial burden.
