Tom Zajicek Memorial Fund
On August 6th, 2017 my beloved father, Tom Zajicek was doing what he loved most, communing with nature, climbing in the mountains... While descending Starlight Peak (14, 200) in the High Sierra, his rappelling system became detached from the mountain and he tragically fell to his death.
He loved the mountains, and he spent his life exploring them and climbing them, challenging himself, and teaching others to experience the beauty he felt there. This loss is bigger than I can put into words. I loved my Dad with all my heart, he was one of my best friends, my adventure buddy and mentor. He was a beloved brother, father, friend, mentor, teacher and inspiration to so many!
In an effort to celebrate Tom's Life with as much gusto as Tom had for life, we are having two memorials, one in Wisconsin on September 16th and one in Colorado on October 14th, so that the people from different chapters of his life can come together and celebrate Tom. The funds that are generated from this will go towards memorial costs: renting chairs, tents, food etc...
What is left over will be put towards a cause that Tom would love; 50% to conserving wild lands and 50% to outdoor education. In our grief we forgot to name an organization to donate to in lieu of flowers etc... so this will be the place to donate in Tom's memory.
Tom spent the majority of his life learning about the natural world and appreciating its significance and beauty. His appreciation of nature and the motivation he had to get into the wild was infectious, as was his laughter. His knowledge of the natural world that he so patiently and graciously shared with his family, students and friends throughout his life was a gift born of his dedication and passion to wilderness. The only thing he loved more than the mountains and getting people to experience the outdoors was his two kids, and his family. He left this life too soon, and left behind many who loved him dearly. He will never be forgotten, and his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched. We love you Tom.
