Our Journey to Adoption
Before Austin and I got married, we dreamed about our future family. We always imagined being surrounded by kids. We knew we would have to wait until we were married and settled and secure in our careers. Just as we decided to plan to start expanding our little family, I was diagnosed with premature ovarian failure. I wasn’t even halfway through my 20’s. We were devastated. The dream of a huge family was slipping away. My chances of even getting pregnant in the first place dropped drastically. We tried to stay positive and hopeful, but as the years went by negative thoughts came creeping in. With every negative pregnancy test, my confidence took a hit. My body was failing us. We went to a couple different fertility specialists that each told us the same thing; my eggs were damaged and fertility treatments would essentially be useless. My eggs were unusable. Our best shot was finding an egg donor and then going through IVF treatments. They also warned us to not get too optimistic. It was up to my body to pull through for us and accept the embryo. Austin and I discussed it, researched it, talked to family about it and weighed all of our options. Could I trust my body enough and would we be able to emotionally handle it if it were to fail? How many times could it take? When would enough be enough? Four years later, we are in a great place in our lives. We are ready for this family to grow. The minute we began our journey of adoption, we felt at peace with the decision. We know it isn’t going to be an easy journey, but we know the second we meet our baby, all the heartaches and struggles will make sense. Our baby is out there somewhere and growing in our hearts every day. Our home and our hearts are ready to grow by as many little feet that we are blessed with.
