Charlie was diagnosed with quadriplegic cerebral palsy in 2010. His parents Laura and Simon, family and friends have been raising funds to fund equipment and provide therapies that will help Charlie to reach his maximum potential. Through the generosity of many donors, he went to America in 2013 for Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy. This procedure was successful, however the intensive 4 sessions per week of physiotherapy, essential to rebuild his strength, post surgery, will continue for the foreseeable future at a cost of £200 pw.
Presently the family are negotiating with the local authority for a Disability Facillities Grant to provide a ground floor bedroom and wet room for Charlie. When the extension is built they will have to use Charlie's fund to purchase essential equipment EG Hoist, Shower Seat etc.
Charlie's opportunity to develop to his maximum potential will undoubtably depend on the continuing generosity of donors for some years. However those among you who have been supporting Laura and Simon from the beginning know how very hard they work to keep Charlie's fundraising going.
As their neighbours we have seen first hand how much hard work Laura and Simon and their family do on a daily basis to promote Charlie's independence and to give Bobby the same level of love and attention. We would like to do something for them all, by sending them on a holiday to either Florida or Eurodisney, we understand their aprehension but we feel this is a fantastic opportunity for the whole family to go abroad for the first time together!!
I know many of you have already contributed to Charlie's fund raising in so many ways enabling the family to raise the massive £60,000 for his trip to America and his surgery, but there are many others who I am sure would be happy to help us raise some funds to send them on this trip.
We would be grateful if you donate as much or as little as you are able. Thank you.
