Debbie's Story

Welcome Everyone,
Our lovely Debbie is a 50-year-old mother of two, who is not just a beacon of hope to her children Lorenzo and Lilia but is also a soul mate to her lifelong partner Barry. She is a devoted friend to many in the local community, but also the founder of ‘Happy Hounds of Hook’ where they live in Hook, Hampshire.

“Anyone who has ever met Debbie could never fail to be touched by her laughter, her generous spirit, and her sheer love of life! Her kindness and compassion for others are part of what makes her such a wonderful person to be around”

Sadly, in March 2024 of this year, Debbie and her family received the news no family should ever have to endure. She was diagnosed with stage 4 bowel cancer. Debbie has since undergone Ostomy surgery and has now started the process of chemotherapy alongside a targeted therapy drug which will hopefully prevent the further spread of the cancer.

The NHS team at Basingstoke Hospital have been fantastic, but the standard chemotherapy they offer provides limited hope. NHS surgery is not possible at this point and the urgency to explore more advanced, private healthcare solutions has become evident.

Debbie’s family and support network started the necessary research to look at private options and have found a leading Professor in London who has an international reputation for the treatment of bowel cancers that require advanced therapies.
With this cutting-edge treatment it could cure or significantly extend Debbie’s life, however the cost of this treatment is so expensive it is not something the family alone could possibly raise.

We @togetherfordebbie will support the family as they begin the journey of trying to raise funds. Without further treatment Debbie’s life expectancy is limited and that means we need to try and help give her every opportunity of getting the treatment she so desperately needs.

Debbie is truly an inspiration and has shown nothing but determined courage and bravery throughout this whole ordeal, we hope you will join us in supporting her cause and help us raise awareness on bowel cancer.
