Together we protect NHS Scotland

Donation protected
At the end of January when COVID-19 broke out in China, a fellow Chinese friend suggested donating some much needed PPE equipment to the frontline hospitals in Wuhan. What started as a small idea quickly snowballed among the local Chinese community. In less than 4 weeks time, more than 200 people and their families and friends donated over £18K in fund as well as various aid item. With the generous contribution from everyone, we were able to help 14 hospitals in Wuhan to secure over 19,000 pieces of protective clothing including masks, gloves and protective gowns.

Over the course of this we learned the importance of PPE items, and how imperative they are in protecting frontline medical workers. Therefore when Covid-19 broke out in the UK, we decided to carry on our work and help our local NHS here in Scotland as much as we can.  We are working hard to secure quality PPE items that meet the required standard, such as masks, goggles and face shied visors to donate to critical care units as well as general practices within NHS Lothian and beyond.

"No man is an island entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main; " Wherever we come from, whatever our backgrounds might be, this is our home and this is our family. We want to be the home team that support our NHS by showing our gratitude towards their courage and selflessness, and by helping them to better protect themselves, so they can better protect us.

Please join us in raising fund and donating PPE items to the doctors and nurses fighting for us on the frontline.

------- Q&A -------

Q: Why are you buying PPE items if the government says they have delivered enough?
A: We are in touch with a few critical care units as well as general practice. Although some of them have some PPE items that follow the government guideline, the supply level is still not high enough. Local GP doctors who also come into contact with confirmed patients still don't have top level FFP3 respirators, but only standard masks which just meet the minimum requirements. This is a deadly infectious disease, and we want to equip the NHS with the best possible protection. And if that means shelling out from our own pockets to get better PPE equipment, we will happily do it.

Q: How do you ensure the PPE items you are purchasing meet the requirements? There are numerous reports on sub-standard mask, goggles etc.
A: Safety and quality are non-negotiable when it comes to PPE clothing. We have a couple of dedicated team members who have backgrounds in medical equipment supplies. Together they are working rigorously to make sure all manufacturers we contact have met the regulatory requirements in quality management, and all products we purchased are CE certified.

Q: What will you do with the fund raised if PPE donation is no longer needed?
A: If we beat COVID-19 earlier than expected (Hooray!) and aid items are no longer required, we would use the donation to help local community based projects, or donate everything to NHS Scotland. We will update on our financing as well as our progress throughout this journey, to share with all donors and followers of our page. We welcome any comments, suggestions and feedback!
