Together, We Can Fight Duchenne!

My name is Rafael Rijos, and I am the proud father of a 9-year-old boy named Angel. Angel is a bright and loving child, but he faces the daily challenges of living with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), a severe genetic disorder that progressively weakens the muscles. This devastating condition currently has no cure. Existing treatments can only slow the progression of muscle deterioration, but they do not stop it. Tragically, these treatments are not universally accessible due to the complexity of the condition, which affects multiple coding regions of the DMD gene.

Recent advances, such as gene therapy, have shown promise but have not yet delivered long-term solutions. One significant limitation has been the use of micro-dystrophin, a shortened version of the dystrophin protein that fails to provide comprehensive protection for muscles and the heart.

However, there is hope. Dr. Renzhi Han, a professor of Pediatrics at Indiana University School of Medicine, has made a groundbreaking advancement in the fight against DMD. His team has developed a triple-AAV vector system capable of restoring the full-length dystrophin protein. This innovative approach has the potential to dramatically improve muscle health, strength, and overall function for patients like Angel.

Unfortunately, as with most medical research, moving this promising therapy forward requires significant funding. The next steps include conducting toxicity studies, producing clinical-grade vectors, and initiating clinical trials efforts that collectively require approximately $6 million.

Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy affects 1 in 5,000 children, placing an enormous emotional and financial burden on countless families. Many parents, like me, are desperate for solutions but lack the resources to make a meaningful contribution to such critical research.

That’s why I’m asking for your help. My goal is to raise $150,000 to support Dr. Han’s vital work and bring us one step closer to a cure. Every donation, no matter the size, makes a difference. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this message with your friends and family. Together, we can amplify our efforts and inspire others to join this cause.

Your support could be life-changing—not just for Angel, but for thousands of children and families who are counting on breakthroughs like this. This is an opportunity to contribute to a cause that will have a lasting impact, and I promise you, your help will make a difference.

Thank you for your compassion and generosity.
