Tofo Beach Essential Items Fund

Like many communities around the world, Tofo Beach, Mozambique, has been forced to shut down due to Coronavirus. As such, the town, which is dependent on eco-tourism, has been economically devastated by the COVID-19 Pandemic.
Nestled into one of Mozambique’s many bays, Tofo Beach is beautiful. Its wide, crescent beaches gradually descend beneath the turquoise-hued Indian Ocean. The waters are filled with colorful coral reefs. The town has struck an important balance between sustainable fishing and eco-tourism.
But COVID-19 has forced the Government to mandate business shut-downs. All the hotels in the town, from Casa Barry to Hotel Tofo Mar, have ceased operations. For a town that relies on tourism, this is economically devastating. People have been left without income and sustenance. Children cannot attend school.
There has not been significant international attention or aid devoted to the area. So, we are reaching out to ask those who know how special of a place Tofo is – and how special the people are who comprise it – to fill in the void. We ask that you consider contributing to an essential items fund for the community.
Even if you have not been to Tofo, you can appreciate the impact that this public health crisis is having. Without tourism, there is no income. Without income, people will struggle to feed and support their families. Money goes a long way in Tofo, and we hope to assist a significant amount of the town with our goal of $1,000 USD.
Please consider donating in the following increments (USD):
$10: 3 kilograms/6.5 pounds of fish
$20: 2 kilograms/4.5 pounds of rice
$25: Education packets for an entire classroom of children
$50: A large box of face masks or gloves
$100: Educations packets for 120 children.
