Hi my name is Toni and my furbaby's name is Toffee of @churroandtoffee,
He's recently been diagnosed with perianal hernia and needs to undergo surgery. For those of you who doesn't know what that is, here's the description:
"The pelvic floor supports the rectum and keeps the abdominal contents in their normal positions. When the muscular diaphragm is weakened, it may rupture, allowing organs to become entrapped in the hernia. Perineal hernias exhibit as a swelling adjacent to the rectum and most commonly occurs in older unneutered dogs. Though a perineal hernia is not life-threatening in itself, it may require an emergency response if the bladder moves through the rupture, as this can obstruct urination. If a loop of intestine is trapped in the hernia, this may lead to strangulation of the bowel and loss of blood supply. A perineal hernia is a rupture in the pelvic floor, through which an organ may protrude into the region between the anus and the scrotum. This affects a dog’s ability to urinate and defecate and may be life-threatening if the bladder or intestine is involved."
In short, it can only get worse. :( I'm not exactly sure what our time frame is but we want to do it as soon as possible because it can be fatal. Our doctor from Animal Surgical Clinic, Seattle, Dr. Bennett said that Toffee lost support on both sides. So he needs to operate on both.
I just received the quotaton today, 17 January 2018, and we need to raise $6,500 for the operation. My boyfriend and I are currently working towards this goal but unfortunately, we don't have enough resources to attain this amount as soon as we need to. Also, since we just made a big move to Seattle this year and we are slowely readjusting to our lives here.
We also would like to let everyone know that we have already gotten Churro and Toffee health insurance through Trupanion to avoid this in the future but since this illness is a confirmed pre-existing condition, our insurer cannot reimburse this huge amount.
I know this may seem like a lot of money to ask but any help would be greatly appreciated and go a long way!
We LOVE our Toffee very much and would do anything to make his stay with us longer. We are very happy that he has brought so much happiness to all of you who watch our stories and like our pictures/videos on Instagram daily. Please include Toffee in your prayers and we are working hard to be able to get him the best care possible!
