Hurricane Maria devastated the island of Puerto Rico
on September 20, 2017. The power and communications systems collapsed island wide, communities were flooded and the water distribution system was greatly affected. I grew up in the Town of Aguadilla, on the western part of the island, known for its beautiful beaches and the kindness of its people. I (Letty Fantauzzi-Singer) am hoping, along with my brother (Roberto Fantauzzi) and sister (Brenda Fantauzzi Singer), to raise funds to help the people of Aguadilla. The government of PR has estimated that power will not be restored for a minimum of 6 months islandwide. Therefore, a lot of residents, some of whom I grew up with, will be affected in their every day lives and some will not have the ability to return to work until power and communications are restored. There are many groups currently collecting money, food, and water. My experience is that most of the help goes to the San Juan metropolitan area and trickles to the rest of the island. It is for this reason that we would like to help the residents of Aguadilla directly. Our goal is to help with every day needs, such as money for food and gas, help in paying bills, rent or mortgage, distributing satellite telephones to target neighborhoods to ease communication, and any other help the residents of Aguadilla may need in the foreseeable future. No government entity or official will be involved nor a third party. My siblings and I will distribute the money or desired product based on need. We grew up in a beautiful town that we love but marriage and work decided our fate in the US. We have many family and friends in the area. It will mean a lot to us to help the town residents until the situation normalizes and power and water are restored. Every dollar will go to the residents of the Town of Aguadilla and we are very grateful for any amount you can contribute. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
