Ana Maria Zea - Medical Financial Assistance

Ana Maria Zea Zuluaga, also known as “LA ZEA”, is a loving mother, wife, daughter, sister and friend who just turned 50 on august 25th, 2022. She was diagnosed with an aggressive Stage 4 Colon Cancer earlier this year, and since august 31st, she has been at Inova Fairfax Hospital due to a medical emergency related to her cancer that escalated to the point that there is nothing more that the doctors can do, since a lot of her organs have been compromised due to the advance stage of her illness. Currently, she is receiving hospice care (which focuses on the care, comfort, and quality of life of a person with a severe disease approaching the end of life).

LA ZEA, Ana Sofia (our 10-year-old daughter) and I (Andres Escobar, her husband), flew from Bogotá, Colombia, to the Washington D.C. area for LA ZEA’s birthday to be with our son, who lives in Washington D.C., family and friends who came from around the country, since it was her birthday wish to be all together.

 LA ZEA was born in Colombia but has always had an extraordinary bond with Washington D.C., as she has visited and lived here for periods of her life. It was her biggest wish to be able to go back and celebrate her birthday here with everyone.

However, the trip took a sudden turn soon after arriving in Washington D.C. Her medical state rapidly worsened, and she was admitted to Inova Fairfax hospital (29 days and counting!!). She keeps fighting for her life! The doctors are doing everything they can, but unfortunately, they do not see her ever being able to travel back to her country at this point. We believe in miracles, and we never give up hope.

Due to her medical condition, the insurance company only covers a very small portion of her medical bill, which increases daily due to the care she needs. 

Therefore, we are asking for your help to establish an economic fund to support the costs of the expenses related to her medical emergency (around $250.000 USD) . Funds raised will go towards medical costs, supplies, and general support for LA ZEA´s fight against colon cancer. 

Any unused funds will be donated to the Colon Cancer Coalition to help other families in need and to help the research.
