<div>Hola, soy Hiram Kossio, tengo 46 años y soy peinador y maquillista. Durante los últimos 15 años me he desempeñado laboralmente enseñando el arte del maquillaje y peinado.

<div>Soy originario de Hermosillo, Sonora en México, una ciudad del norte del país; durante 15 años radiqué en la CDMX en donde trabajé como estilista profesional freelance en distintas producciones, a la vez que continúe en la educación durante algunos años, instruyendo en la técnica de maquillaje y peinado a personas de escasos recursos, para que pudieran, a través de éste oficio, obtener un ingreso.

<div>Al igual que todos, la pandemia fue una etapa complicada ya que las primeras actividades que se suspendieron y las últimas en reactivarse fueron las que involucran a mi profesión, por lo que todos mis ahorros se invirtieron en alquiler, recibos de luz, agua, internet y el resto de los pagos corrientes. Tres años después y cuando todo parecía volver a la normalidad, surge un pequeño rebrote de COVID y nuevamente me cancelaron todos los llamados de trabajo, es entonces que decido regresar a mi ciudad natal, Hermosillo.

<div>Todo parecía de nuevo, ir tomando su curso, cuando de pronto, en la zona de mi mandíbula del lado izquierdo, empezó a surgir un abultamiento. Hacía aproximadamente 20 años me habían quitado un quiste por lo que inicié con todos los procedimientos necesarios para atenderme en el hospital general de mi localidad. La opción de cirugía que me ofrecieron fue cortar la mandíbula y colocar sólo una placa de titanio, lo cual me dejaría con la parte izquierda del rostro colapsado al no colocar ningún tipo de prótesis o de injerto para reemplazar la zona de la resección.

<div>Los estudios patológicos, arrojaron que era un tumor denominado AMELOBLASTOMA, y aunque no es maligno, sí es muy destructivo, tanto que  hasta el momento, y como pueden ver en la imagen de presentación, ha consumido prácticamente la mitad del hueso de la mandíbula, mientras que la inflamación ya desplazó las muelas y dientes de la zona afectada, de las cuáles ya he perdido 2 piezas dentales, las otras 3 tienen movilidad y se desplazan debido a la presión de los dientes superiores.  Todos los días lavo las fundas y forros de mi almohada debido a que durante las noches sale un  líquido con sangre que se acumula en alrededor de la zona afectada.

<div>Después de varios días de depresión y algunas noches sin dormir debido a ésa noticia, empecé a investigar opciones con médicos particulares. La mejor opción la encontré, aquí en mi ciudad. Esta me ha devuelto la esperanza, aunque consiste en una cirugía muy especializada: Para realizarla, previamente se mandarán a fabricar unas prótesis de titanio, y el día de la cirugía, mientras la doctora cirujano maxilofacial realizará una resección de mandíbula para enviarla nuevamente a patología, un ortopedista estará trabajando en el corte de una parte de hueso en la zona de la pierna, para que después un cirujano microvascular le dé forma a ése hueso y poder después colocarlo en la mandíbula haciendo las conexiones necesarias de venas y nervios que nutren y le dan movilidad.  Para finalizar, el médico enviado por el fabricante de las prótesis, las colocará para fijar debidamente el injerto de hueso.

<div>El costo de todo el procedimiento, incluyendo honorarios de los 4 cirujanos y parte de la terapia posterior es muy elevado, sin embargo, el equipo de médicos al enterarse de mi caso y conociendo que llevo casi un año realizando actividades para reunir el dinero necesario, han logrado bajar el costo total al 50% arrojando ahora un total de 1,000,000 de pesos mexicanos ($50,000 USD), sin embargo sigue siendo una cantidad alta . para llegar a ella.

<div>Para poder reunirla lo antes posible, hemos creado ésta recaudación, ya que una indicación médica importante ha sido la de realizar la cirugía lo antes posible, ya que si el tumor llega a afectar la articulación de la mandíbula o se presenta una infección, el pronóstico puede empeorar.

All of my savings went to rent, electricity, water, internet, and other living expenses. Three years later, just as everything seemed to be returning to normal, a small COVID outbreak occurred, and once again all my jobs were canceled. That is when I decided to return to my hometown, Hermosillo.

<div>Everything seemed to be getting back on track, when suddenly, on the left side of my jaw, a lump started to appear. About 20 years ago, I had a cyst removed, so I began all the necessary procedures to be treated at the general hospital in my town. The surgery option they offered me was to cut part of the jaw and only place a titanium plate, which would leave the left side of my face collapsed since no type of prosthesis or graft would be placed to replace the resected area.

<div>The pathological studies revealed that it was a tumor called AMELOBLASTOMA. Although it is not malignant, it is very destructive—so much so that up to this point, as you can see in the presentation image, it has consumed practically half of the jawbone. The swelling has already displaced the molars and teeth in the affected area. I have already lost two teeth, and three more are loose and shifting due to the pressure from the upper teeth. Every day I have to wash the pillowcases and covers of my pillow because, at night, a blood-stained liquid drains and accumulates around the affected area.

<div>After several days of depression and sleepless nights following the news, I began to research options with private doctors. The best option I found was here in my own city. This gave me hope again, although it involves a very specialized surgery. To perform it, custom-made titanium prosthetics will be manufactured in advance, and on the day of the surgery, while the maxillofacial surgeon performs the jaw resection to send it back to pathology, an orthopedist will remove a portion of bone from the leg. Then, a microvascular surgeon will shape that bone and place it in the jaw, connecting the necessary veins and nerves to provide blood supply and mobility. Finally, the prosthetics manufacturer’s doctor will place the implants to properly secure the bone graft.

<div>The total cost of the entire procedure, including fees for the four surgeons and part of the postoperative therapy, is very high. However, once the medical team learned about my case and knowing that I have been working for almost a year to raise the necessary funds, they managed to reduce the total cost by 50%, bringing it down to 1,000,000 Mexican pesos (about $50,000 USD). Still, it remains a significant amount to reach.

<div>To raise it as soon as possible, we have created this fundraiser, since one important medical recommendation is to have the surgery performed as soon as possible. If the tumor reaches the jaw joint or an infection develops, the prognosis could worsen.
