Todd Doan was a teacher, mentor, friend, father, and husband. He was an avid tennis fan, amazing cook, and gifted musician. To those who know him, Todd was a dedicated, selfless, and loving man beyond measure.
He faced many adversities in his life and always did so with smile and sense of humor, saying "Everything happens for a reason".
Over the years, he taught music to hundreds of children in Florida, New York, Connecticut and New Jersey. He found his calling while teaching in Newark - to help the kids who needed it most, giving unconditional love and compassion. This led Todd and his husband to become foster and adoptive parents to 25 children since 2011.
In early June, Todd went to the hospital, with what he thought might be appendicitis. Unfortunately, it was much more severe and it was tumor and advanced liver cancer. Todd spent the following weeks afterwards in various hospitals being seen by liver specialists. He faced complication after complication but stayed strong in the face of everything that came up. The whole time he was in the hospital he was always worried about everyone else, especially his 5 children at home, his puppy R2, and his husband, Wylliam.
The outpouring of love and support was greater than we could have imagined. Todd fought bravely against this disease with dignity and strength. After 7 weeks, with love and peace in his heart, he was finally able to rest on Monday, July 31.
Todd was the breadwinner of our family, working hard and trying to not be wasteful. He requested that in lieu of flowers or similar gifts that contributions be made to a savings account. All donations will go towards the children's education. Anyone that knows Todd knows how important education is to him, to allow all children to better their lives and make a positive difference in this world.
We would like to share the opportunity for anyone willing to contribute and be a part of Todd's legacy through his five boys. We thank you all, from the bottom our our hearts.
