Toby’s Road to Remission

Toby (my brother) was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in August of 2016. (Hodgkin’s Lymphoma is a cancer that occurs in the lymphatic system which is part of the body’s immune system.)
In February of 2017, he finished radiation, and by March he had his first clean scan. He was then in remission and free of cancer.
A couple weeks ago, he had his check-up appointment which marked 9 months since he had been in remission. The doctors found something on his x-rays that looked off, so they did further scans only to find that the cancer had returned, and returned in some different areas than before. They proceeded to do more tests to find some good news, that there was no activity in his bone marrow.
Toby will be starting his treatment of immunotherapy and chemotherapy drugs on Monday, February 5th and will continue this treatment in 21 day cycles (depending how his first treatment goes.) Once he is in remission again, he will get a high dose of chemo and then a stem cell transplant.
As we all know, medical bills are not cheap. Thankfully, the insurance does help a lot, but all of these procedures and tests add up quickly. I think the last thing my brother, mom, or stepdad should have to worry about is money and how they will pay for these things. This time has been very hard on my family but we are all staying as positive as we can.
My brother is 17 (15 when he was originally diagnosed) and shouldn’t have to worry about these types of things at all but he is strong, and he will beat this. Thank you for any donations, prayers, and positive vibes sent my family’s way ❤️
