Over the last four years I’ve watched my mate Toby endure daily headaches and regular migraines as a result of a head and neck injury sustained while playing football. It’s been heartbreaking to watch a fun-loving, intelligent and kind friend lose the spark for life he once had.
During this time his injuries have been misdiagnosed many times and the frustration this has caused him has been understandable. The hope and eventual disappointment I’ve seen in Toby each time a new possible cure has been tried and failed is difficult to watch as a friend. I can’t imagine how hard this has been for him.
Toby is a PhD graduate and teacher at university so over this time he has used his research skills to explore all options in finding a cure. He currently sees a Neurologist, Radiologist, PRP specialist, Osteopath, Cranial Osteopath, a headaches specialist and Massage Therapist, and has seen a variety of others in the past. This obviously has a significant financial burden that has cost him about $40,000 over the last four years.
Toby is a proud and humble man who doesn’t like to ask others for help, so when he told me he was thinking of starting a Go Fund Me page it dawned on me how much all of this must be costing him and how difficult it would be to make this request of others himself. Toby has a lot of confidence in the current diagnosis of Cervicogenic Headache, which put simply means constant referred pain to the head and face from an injury to the upper spine.
Treatment for Cervicogenic Headache is Radiofrequency Neurotomy on the affected nerve roots - https://www.spine-health.com/video/cervicogenic-headache-video . Toby is having this procedure on the 17th November 2017, which will cost another $1250. He is asking friends and family for any small donations (loose change only he says) to go towards this upcoming operation.
Any money received over this amount will contribute to any ongoing medical bills. But if fingers crossed all things go well and he is cured, any additional funds will be donated to a charity related to his condition. Please help bring the spark back to my dear friend because the world will be repaid in kind by having this intelligent and good-natured man healthy again.
