Toby's Open Heart + Recovery Fund

As friends of the family, we wanted to put this page together on behalf of the Esman family. Toby and his family have been through the wringer and back, with a long journey ahead of them...

From the family:
Two weeks ago Dad was rushed to the hospital in Oceanside by ambulance for a possible heart attack after collapsing at home with chest pain. After a CT Scan, Dad was diagnosed with Acute Type A Aortic Dissection and was immediately airlifted to UCSD Medical Center and admitted to the Cardiovascular Wing for immediate surgery.

After an 11 hour open heart surgery, he was sedated for 36 hours and remained in the ICU. Hoping for a solid recovery after he was woken up, his doctor's found some fluid surrounding his heart and decided to do a small procedure to remove it. During this procedure a complication arose, and they had to perform another emergency open heart surgery to remove the fluid. 

On April 2nd we were told that a staph infection had occurred in his chest. His doctors hope an aggressive treatment of antibiotics will rid the infection. If not, they will have to operate again.

Dad has remained in the ICU and will for an undetermined amount of time following the treatment of the infection and last open heart surgery. Although his body has been through two major surgeries and in shock, his spirits are still high to get through this and heal so he can back to life!


From the friends:
We want to help the Esman's out with the rising medical costs of this terrible situation! Also, as a family, they are traveling daily to be by Toby's side at the hospital while he fights through this. Hopefully we can ease some of the rising financial stresses on the family, including their daily trips down to La Jolla from Oceanside, hospital parking, doggie day care for their four dogs, groceries and more.

We can't wait to see Toby at home, healthy, and on the road to recovery, surrounded by family and his four pups!
