To the Stars (1st stop UChicago)

Please help me get to my dream school! I’ve just been accepted to the University of Chicago and I could not be more excited.  But $26,000 a year stands in the way of my enrollment. If you help me get there, I promise to pay it forward when it’s my turn to assist another young mind with big dreams and shallow pockets.

My name is Tristan Bachmann and I am quite literally starry eyed about a career in astrophysics. Ever since travelling into the Australian outback, where I first saw the Milky Way in all its glory, I have been fascinated with the night sky. It’s in my DNA; I was born the son of a physicist and a soon-to-be minister, both of whom call the universe their workplace, albeit in different ways.

What’s led me to this point:
*Loaded all the science and math classes I could into my schedule, including AP studies in Physics, Chemistry, BC Calculus, and Multivariable Calculus
*Achieved Honor Roll all four years
*Participated in NASA-funded research internship in RIT’s Center for Imaging Science
*Presented my research at the SPIE/OSA IONS conference in October
*The link to my blog below shares more about my research!

Where I hope to go from here:
*Soak up the wisdom of incredible physics and astrophysics professors at UChicago and learn about everything from the origin of the universe to dark energy to quantum physics, perhaps even join the department in their research at the South Pole
*Earn my Ph.D. in astrophysics, become a professor, pass on what I have learned about all the strange and amazing things that happen in our universe

Please help me become a rocket scientist! On the threshold of all this opportunity, I respectfully request your investment in my education. I will do everything I can to provide return on your capital, in the form of new findings in science, better use of resources, and the spirit of human curiosity.

Thank you for your consideration and please contact me if I can answer any questions.

“Nighttime fell across the valley, and we were greeted with a view of the Milky Way, carving out a swath of the night sky, running parallel to the length of the valley, filling our view. No patch of sky was empty; looking up we saw only mountains and stars.” -Essay, Tristan Bachmann
