To support the family of Jacob Bartel

Jacob "Jake" Bartel's life was tragically taken too soon by a senseless act of violence.  Jake was a victim of the shooting at the Onedia Casino on May 1st, 2021. Jake was employed as server at the Raddison for 14 years. He loved his job there and touched the lives of many.  He loved gaming and would stream on Twitch under the name EvilRobotSquirrel on his free time. Jake was a loving, caring individual that would give the shirt off his back to help any individual in need. 

From his brother, Steven: “I feel since the news has been made public, I should post something so my friends are aware of the situation. Yesterday morning I received the news that my oldest brother, Jacob, had been tragically taken from us in a senseless act of violence. He was one of the victims of the shooting at the Oneida Casino on the night of May 1, 2021. I really have no words to describe what I have been feeling, but it has been a roller coaster of highs and lows, rapidly pivoting between crying my eyes out and bursts of explosive laughter while reminiscing about my brother with family members.

Jacob was truly one of the kindest people I have known throughout my life. As a kid, he would always try to care for injured birds or mice. I think he felt bad that most of those injuries were caused by our cats and wanted to make that right with the universe. He would also bring back tadpoles from the lake or reptiles he found in our backyard woods to try to keep as pets. That never really worked out as well as he would have liked... Looking back, one of my favorite childhood memories was flipping over rocks in the yard with him and Kevin with heavy anticipation for the very rare chance to find a salamander (sometimes you could go a year without finding one!).

Although I don’t know full details, I know as an adult he has helped friends get through extremely rough times in their lives. His second family at the Radison, where he was employed as a server for 14 years, all loved to work with him and I know he will be dearly missed there. The sheer amount of messages I have received from his coworkers (who I have never met) makes it clear to me the impact that he had there.

Jacob was taken before his time and I will miss him dearly. I wish I had spent more time with him over the last few years, but if you made it all the way through this, please make the time for the people you care about and tell them you love them.

Jake, I hope you are able to find peace in this chaotic universe. I love you.
