<div>We unexpectedly lost our dad/husband.
</div>
<div>Gary was fit and well, he was over retirement age but continued doing the job he loved.
</div>
<div>He was always happy with what he had and it was always enough for him.
</div>
<div>In just a few short weeks and several late night A&amp;E trips he was was told he had gall stones and an stomach ulcer.
</div>
<div>We were under the impression that he would be treated and continue with normal life.
</div>
<div>Unfortunately that was not the case, after numerous hospital appointments and tests we were told it was also cancer - the word no family ever wants to hear!
</div>
<div>He was diagnosed with esophageal cancer and we were told it had spread to the lymph glands and any treatment would not be given. He would have just months left.
</div>
<div>As a family we fought and managed to get a second opinion and Gary did one round of chemotherapy.
</div>
<div>Last Monday we had to call 999 as he appeared to be very unwell, after several tests it came back that he had a UTI and sepsis. 
</div>
<div>Midweek we thought he had turned a corner and seemed to be responding well to antibiotics.
</div>
<div>Unfortunately on friday he started to deteriate, they took him for a CT scan where they confirmed the cancer had now spread to his liver and he also now had a colon infection. At this point his consultant gathered the family and said if he doesnt respond to antibiotics throughout the weekend then we were now looking at just weeks. Sunday all his family were told to come for a meeting to discuss his ongoing treatment.

<div>We were taken into a side room and told he had just days.
</div>
<div>However within just 2 hours Gary died surrounded by the ones he loved most.
</div>
<div>He was finally out of pain.
</div>
<div>We are asking for any help possible to give him the send off he deserves.
</div>
